Mark Hooper Open New Show At Quality Pictures

Quality Pictures is pleased to present There:Here, an exhibition of large-scale color photographs by Portland-based photographer Mark Hooper. There:Here runs from March 6 - April 26, 2008. Mr. Hooper will be present at the 1st Thursday opening on March 6 from 6 - 9pm.

There:Here is a marked departure from Hooper’s earlier acclaimed series “Lewis and Clark, Quantifying Nature” which was included in the 2006 Oregon Biennial. The photographs in “There:Here” are a conversation around the idea of change.

Through staged tableaux, the photographs use metaphorical events and tools to address enabling and predicting change on the physical, psychological or spiritual level.

Congratulations to Jen & Matt

Jen Madjarov and Matt McCormick will be exchanging vows in May and have selected photographs by Holly Andres as part of the their wedding registry.

A personal note from the couple:

Thank you for checking out our art registry, we hope you enjoy these works as much as we do. We already have a kitchen overflowing with pots, pans, and cooking gadgets (although Matt is still hoping for a waffle maker), so instead we thought we’d enlist your help in finding something amazing to put on our walls.

We both have a real connection to art: Jen’s grandparents were both recognized artists in the Czech Republic and her aunt, Dana Lichtag, continues to paint beautiful abstract oil paintings (check out http://lichtag.net/). And while Matt hasn’t picked up a paintbrush in years, his high school painting of jazz musician Robert Johnson just may have been the reason why Jen fell in love with Matt in the first place.

We hope that you will contribute to the start of our art collection. We know that these two photographs of ‘Fiona’ and ‘Calvin’ by Portland-based photographer, Holly Andres, will be a life-long reminder of our special day and the wonderful group of people with whom we shared it.

Saturday Brunch and Talk at Quality Pictures

Quality Pictures director Erik Schneider will be hosting a brunch and talk Saturday March 1st from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Erik will be discussing the concept, technique and market behind “The Man Show”. Admission is free but space is limited so RSVP today by emailing info@qpca.com. Saturday will also be the last day to view Brian Ulrich’s “Thrift”.

THE MAN SHOW at Quality Pictures

Quality Pictures opened a group show on February 7th featuring works by David Hilliard, Miguel Rio Branco, Bryan E. Schellinger, Vik Muniz, Shawn Records, Chris Verene, Jen DeNike, Wardell MIlan, Micheal Scoggins, Richard Misrach, Tracey Moffatt, Isaac Julian, Corey Arnold, Brandon Herman, Drew Conrad, Shawn Records and Harriet Liebowitz. The show will be open until March 29th.

Heather Redetzke’s “Immediate Response Requested”

Quality Pictures is pleased to present QProjects 3 “Immediate Response Requested” from Heather Redetzke. Immediate Response Requested is Redetzke’s response to the onslaught of payment notices, loan statements, and unsolicited credit offers that have become an entrenched facet of contemporary life in America. In this body of work, Redetzke has transformed these documents into compelling artworks by creating mixed media images that incorporate elements of the solicitations themselves. Further, the artist has also created large scale versions of a number of the works measuring as much as six feet wide. Redetzke’s work will be available for viewing until March 15th.
